Cavansite - Ex. Neely, Sielecki Cavansite with Stilbite and Heulandite - Wagholi, Poona, Maharashtra, India 💎DM for pricing or email info@iRocks.com When Cavansite was first discovered in India in the early 70s (first described in 1973), it blew people’s minds. The intense cerulean blue of this calcium vanadate (where the name came from... CAlcium, VANadate... super original) transformed collectors’ impression of zeolite minerals. Initially, tiny crystals fetched large sums of money, but Cavansite continued to pour out of the district with bigger and better specimens circulating the market. For a time the mineral that seemed to be ubiquitous; however, it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain top-end specimens. This specimen is definitely exquisitely set up with a string of the bright blue “puffs” of Cavansite on top of a contrasting matrix of Stilbite with accenting Heulandite crystals. This small cabinet used to be in the collection of Dr. Steve Neely, a long-time collector of high-end specimens- and between the luster and the aesthetics its easy to see why he chose this piece. For a time, it was also in the personal collection of Rob Sielecki, an Australian dealer. The Cavansites are pristine and sit up beautifully on its acrylic base. 7.5 cm. Pseudomorphs after botryoids of likely shattuckite or malachite, they recrystallized in multiple generations making the interior surface sparkly with microcrystals. This one is unusual because you also see partial casts comprised of a generation of quartz(?) that grew before the dioptase.
